Pie Town is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located along U.S. Highway 60 in Catron County, New Mexico. As of the 2010 census , it had a population of 186. [2] Pie Town's name comes from an early bakery that specialized in dried-apple pies, established by Clyde Norman in the early 1920s.

As of the 2010 census it had a population of 228. [4] Walter De Maria 's 1977 art installation, The Lightning Field, is between Quemado and Pie Town, New Mexico .
Route description. US 60 enters New Mexico in Catron County east of Springerville, Arizona. The road makes an arc through Catron County, with the apex at Quemado, avoiding Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest and Escondido Mountain. East of Pie Town, the road crosses the Continental Divide at an elevation of 7,796 feet (2,376 m).
Alegres Mountain is found in the Mangas Mountains and is the 180th highest peak in New Mexico and ranked 30th by prominence. [5] [6] Alegres Mountain is 10 miles (17 km) south west of Pie Town, New Mexico and can be accessed via Dipping Vat Road (also referred to as Pipeline Springs Road). [5] [7]
