4,513. Mesa, Az. Oct 16, 2014. #3. The hopper does. The Joey does not. From dish to node, and node to hopper needs to be rg6 cabling. From node to Joey, it can be rg59, but depending on your activity, you may experience some issues (might as well upgrade that cable to rg6 as well). Make sure it is rated 3GHz.
Central PA. Sep 19, 2006. #6. RG-6 is a generic term, and is best interpreted as "sort of like". The "slash" number is a type designation, and that suffix came from the original, now obsolete, military "slash sheets". So RG-6/ (letter) meant something specific as to construction and specifications. Thus using just RG-6 essentially means that ...
SatelliteGuys Pro. Sep 8, 2008. 1,305. 0. Cavalier, North Dakota. Jan 4, 2009. #2. One always prefers to have as few splices as possible in a cable run. That being said, if you are using barrels rated for 2250mhz, good quality compression connectors, and taking every effort to keep the water out, you should be fine.

Filling a coaxial connector with a properly formulated dielectric grease is good weather protection practice and will not block electrical throughput or signal. Most coaxial connectors will not contain much air space in the active cable core area when correctly assembled. Filling the connector with a dielectric grease with dielectric properties ...

In fact, it is part of the Dish installation process for techs to consider using and test existing cable in a residence to determine if that can be used instead of laying down new cable.

It comes down to the quality and type of cable and connectors. If your coax is a good quality RG6 or the better grade RG11, distances of several hundred feet are possible without noticeable loss. I have installed fixed dishes with 300' of quad shield RG6 with little loss. Some fixed dish installs have used 500' of RG11 coax with good results.
Apr 7, 2012. #15.
