    The Discovery works just fine for the VHF band. It works well with SDR Console, SDR# and SDR++. The serial number being used is the one that is reported by SDR Console and SDR++ - SDR# reports only the first fifteen digits of the serial number, SDR Console and SDR++ report all 16 digits.     To make it work like the Icom you'll have to use Discovery mode that just measure the time it is on a channel and then continues regardless of what are happening on that channel, exactly as the Icom functions. So you have both of those functionalities to use in a Uniden scanner.
