River dolphins are relatives of the Delphinoidea. The species is an average-sized oceanic dolphin. Females weigh up to 150 kg (330 lb) and males 200 kg (440 lb) with males reaching 2.5 m (8.2 ft) and females 2.3 m (7.5 ft) in length. Pacific white-sided dolphins usually tend to be larger than dusky dolphins. Females reach maturity at seven years.
The Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin ( Sousa chinensis) [ 3] is a species of humpback dolphin inhabiting coastal waters of the eastern Indian and western Pacific Oceans. [ 4] This species is often referred to as the Chinese white dolphin in mainland China, Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan as a common name.
Atlantic humpback dolphins prefer to keep a distance from boat engines, and when they are seen in the water, they are most likely traveling and foraging. They forage both independently and cooperatively. [6] The groups usually range from 1-8 animals, but gatherings of up to 20-40 animals have been observed.
The beak of northern right whale dolphins is short and well-defined, characterised by a straight mouthline. The flippers are small, curved, narrow and pointed. The tail flukes are triangular and, like the flippers, rather pointed. Adults are 2–3 meters (6.6–9.8 ft) long and weigh between 60–100 kg (130–220 lb).
