Ottumwa ( / əˈtʌmwə / ə-TUM-wə) is a city in and the county seat of Wapello County, Iowa, United States. [ 7] The population was 25,529 at the time of the 2020 U.S. Census. [ 8] Located in the state's southeastern section, the city is split into northern and southern halves by the Des Moines River .
In the 1950s, the smaller Dahlonega School District was absorbed into the Ottumwa School District. [3] (Dahlonega School No. 1 was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.) On July 1, 1991, it absorbed a portion of the former Hedrick Community School District, which was involuntarily dissolved by the State of Iowa. [4]
Indian Hills Community College ( IHCC) is a public community college in Iowa with campuses in Ottumwa and Centerville.
