Ralph de Toledano (August 17, 1916 – February 3, 2007) was an American writer in the conservative movement in the United States throughout the second half of the 20th century. A friend of Richard Nixon, he was a journalist and editor of Newsweek and the National Review, and the author of 26 books, including two novels and a book of poetry.
Altamiro is also an artist who paints on the walls of caves. His name is a clear reference to the Spanish Cueva de Altamira . The characters are physically the same as modern people, but they are dressed in pieces of fur, a bit like The Flintstones. They are all white. Altamiro has black hair and a slight beard.

Lombardo Toledano was born in Teziutlán, Puebla, to middle-class parents of Sephardic Jewish descent from Spain and Italy. After obtaining his law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 1919, he pursued a master's degree in philosophy and letters there, and he began teaching at both the Popular University and at UNAM.
