This is a list of the most populous incorporated places of the United States. As defined by the United States Census Bureau, an incorporated place includes cities, towns, villages, boroughs, and municipalities. [a] A few exceptional census-designated places (CDPs) are also included in the Census Bureau's listing of incorporated places.
The region is home to three major cities: San Francisco, Oakland and, the largest, San Jose. The Bay Area has been inhabited since antiquity, first by the Ohlone and Miwok peoples, followed by the Spanish, who first arrived in 1769 and established the area's first mission, Mission San Francisco de Asís, in 1776.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is the official car rental service of the NCAA, NHL and the UEFA Europa League. From 2004 to 2010, it was a sponsor of the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) circuit. In 2018, it entered into a 15-year agreement to hold the naming rights for Enterprise Center, the home arena of the St. Louis Blues.

Based on the form of government, there are 292 towns and 59 cities in Massachusetts. Some municipalities, however, still refer to themselves as "towns" even though they have a city form of government. The Census Bureau classifies towns in Massachusetts as a type of "minor civil division" and cities as a type of "populated place".
