Fort Johnson. Fort Johnson, formerly Fort Polk, is a United States Army installation located in Vernon Parish, Louisiana, about 10 miles (15 km) east of Leesville and 30 miles (50 km) north of DeRidder in Beauregard Parish . Named after New York soldier William Henry Johnson, the post encompasses about 198,000 acres (309 sq mi).
Around February 2008 Soldiers of the 86th IBCT were beginning to receive notification of their upcoming deployment. The Brigade Commander at the time was Colonel William F. Roy. In 2009, the Brigade did a rotation at JRTC in Fort Polk, LA. In early December 2009, the Brigade was officially mobilized and to report to Camp Atterbury, IN.
The brigade reactivated at Fort Polk, LA in 2015 by re-flagging the assets of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, which was inactivated. The infantry, cavalry and field artillery battalions of the 4th Brigade were reassigned to the 3rd Brigade. The brigade deployed to Iraq in 2017 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
