The Ceylon Technical College, Katubedda was established in 1966 offering the Diploma in Technology, it gained University status, as the Katubedda Campus of the single University of Ceylon, on 15 February 1972. The Department of Architecture, then at Colombo, was transferred to Katubedda in the formation of this new campus.
In 1983, Weddikkara joined the Department of Architecture at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka as a part-time lecturer. In 1985, she became a full-time lecturer.
