Re: Full Virus Scan stuck at 0% after a while of scanning. it seems to be stucked on the anti-rootkit check, please try to disable the anti-rootkit in scan settings and try again. There is no disable, just 'delete'. I remember my McAfee Internet Security having this problem with rootkit.
I have just opened Windows Explorer and selected a file right click to start the scan on the file, the scan completed relatively quickly (small file) and a popup windows bottom right of the screen opens to confirm the scan and result. There is also a More Details option which opens the main UI window. You don't say how big this file or file ...

At this point I cancelled the scan. It seems Avast completes most of the scan with 30/45 mins and then stall for hours with the last bit. I am not sure why. Previously full scans have not taken more than an hour. Also the smart scan works with no issues - takes a minute or 2 to complete. Relevant info. Windows 10.
If you want to see the scheduled tasks open Avast, go to Protection---Virus Scans----Custom Scans, and see if I was right. Also, tell me when you installed Avast. Yes, you are right. Scheduled scan run on day 6th 22:22 every month and this is the same time when avast suddenly pop up and does a smart scan yesterday.

Paid versions of avast may well run the Smart Scam, but many of the modules in the smart scan are for paid version of the type of scan, e.g. CleanUP, Ransomware, if you hadn't paid for these modules, a free version ...
