If you're looking to go to the Port Authority, I'd recommend taking the NJ transit 135 bus. It goes from the GSP Exit 120 Park and Ride in Old Bridge straight to the Port Authority. Costs $222/month. The Academy bus costs $255 a month, leaves from the Cheesequake Rest Area (I think you'd want to take the Parkway Express bus).

For awhile I was getting a ride to the Rt 3 stops, but more often than not, the bus would arrive with standing room only. Then my ride changed work schedules so that was out. If I counted the time it took to drive to the park n ride, or the time waiting on Rt3 for a bus with seats, the local bus wasn't that much longer of an option.
A couple blocks away from me, there is a bus named 99S and it heads to the port authority building. From there, I need to find the 7 train or whatever it's called to go to Citi Field, I believe it's the Mets-Willets point.

My wife and I are considering moving to Monmouth County. Without getting into too many details, I am very familiar with the area and I work near the Port Authority in Manhattan so the bus is my likely mode of commuting. As such we are targeting being within 10 minutes of a park and ride for the Academy Bus either at PNC or Exit 109.

Hello all, looking for an easy, inexpensive way to get from the Port Authority bus station to Sloan Kettering Hospital York Ave and 67th st. Been using a cab but it runs anywhere from $20-$30 each way. We stay in NJ and take he Bus in to the Port. Looking for any and all advice please. Thank you.
I wanted to ask if the Port Authority Bus Terminal is generally safe? I will be arriving there at about 8pm on a Monday night (maybe a bit later if there is a flight delay). I am also conscious of the fact that i will definitely look like a tourist and will be wheeling 2 bags. I plan on taking the 9pm or 10pm Greyhound service to Boston.
