Milton is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. Located about 30 mi (48 km) due north of Atlanta, Milton is known for its rural and equestrian heritage. [ 4] The city was incorporated on December 1, 2006, out of the unincorporated northernmost part of northern Fulton County. As of 2020, its population was 41,296.
Milton County was a county of the U.S. state of Georgia from 1857 (167 years ago) to 1931 (93 years ago). It was created on December 18, 1857, from parts of northeastern Cobb, southeastern Cherokee, and southwestern Forsyth counties. The county was named for John Milton, Secretary of State of Georgia from 1777 to 1799. [ 1]
History. Milton High School opened in 1921 in Alpharetta, Georgia, providing grades one to eleven for all of Milton County. In the 1950s, an elementary school was built, with Milton High School then providing only grades eight through twelve. In the 1980s, the school became Fulton County's first comprehensive high school.
