Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Taiwan is an in-lieu travel document issued by the National Immigration Administration of the People's Republic of China, to its citizens from mainland China, to travel to and return from Taiwan . This travel document does not entitle its holder to leave China or enter Taiwan.
The permit was also required for holders of the Hong Kong Certificate of Identity. Prior to 1997, the permit had to be applied for at the Chung Hwa Travel Service in Hong Kong or the Taipei Trade and Tourism Office in Macau. Since the handovers of sovereignty, the application procedures have been eased over time.
For holders of the Permit, valid Hong Kong Entry Permit used to be required, but in early 2009, Hong Kong authorities announced that effective from 27 April 2009, Hong Kong would grant 7-day visa-free access to Permit holders. Started from 1 September 2011, the visa-free period was further increased to 30 days.
