I've found several forum posts asking about these 2 filters and some say the FX6 is too much filter for a 75 gallon while others say it's fine. My tank is moderately planted with low tech plants ( wisteria , swords, anacharis , anubias , and java fern ) and stocked with barbs , yoyo loaches , and a blue gourami .

I have a medium Trigger systems 34 on my 75 gallon tank. Fits perfectly under my stand. I originally had a homemade on it, 30 gallon long. Getting the Trigger systems was one of the best equipment upgrades I ever did. Twin socks, large refugium section, deadly silent. Great sump.

Just made a 20 gallon sump with refugium for my 75 gallon display. Only been running for a few days but seems to be working great. I have a eshopps 800 overflow box and a sicce syncra 3.0 return pump for the setup.

This is our standard configured sump kit for a 75 gallon glass aquarium. It can be configured so that the water flows from left to right, or right to left, depending on your needs. Unlike off-the-shelf acrylic sumps, ours can be installed so that each chamber is the exact size you need to fit...

I second this! I actually have the Photon V1 on my 75 gallon. Only ended up with the 32" because the 48" was sold out and I grow everything from softies to acros. 48" would still be ideal, but if you were looking to save a few bucks, you could get by with the 32" for sure. Will just be lower par on the ends. BRS actually carries them now also.

  7. Lighting for 75 Gallon Reef Tank

I'm not in favor of Fluval. When I asked around a good light for a 10 gallon reef I was told that people were using it to grow corals in 20-30 gallon tanks and it worked great. I figured one of those would work and for the price it wouldn't hurt to try. I also thought about maybe buying another one to balance the light distribution in the tank ...

In agreement with @blaxsun, I would not try 3 tangs in a 75-gallon tank based on my research. You might succeed better with only the bristletooth and 1 other (you might succeed with all 3, possibly, but there are much higher aggression risks, especially in a 75-gallon).

  9. How many gph for a powerhead for a 75 gallon?

There are multiple factor, such as rock layout and coral type. For a softy/lps tank, you can get buy with 10-30x turnover. For SPS, some have over 100x turnover. So for a 75, you could use as little as 750 gph and potentially over 7500gph. If you intend to stick with mushrooms, 10-20x is good.

I'm deciding between the fluval 407 or the fx4 for a 75 gallon that I'm going to install in early summer. I've been doing some research on equipments and what not. I decided this will be the first tank to have a canister filter. I looked at a lot of videos and am still confused which one would be best for my set up.
