The country hosts 40 TV stations, of which nine are in Tbilisi and 31 in the regions. Four stations have national coverage (Georgian Public Broadcaster Channel I, Imedi, Rustavi 2 and Ajara); three of them are Tbilisi-based. Viewers prefer Rustavi 2, followed by Imedi TV and GPB's First Channel.

2 March – The Supreme Court of Georgia grants the ownership rights of Rustavi 2 TV, a popular television channel, to its former co-owner Kibar Khalvashi, drawing protests from the Rustavi 2 journalists, opposition politicians, and civil society groups as well as expressions of concern by the United States embassy and OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media. Sandro Girgvliani was found dead on January 28, 2006 on the outskirts of Tbilisi with multiple injuries inflicted as a result of physical abuse. Imedi Media Holding is a private television and radio company in Georgia, founded by media tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili. It was seized by the government in 2007 for criticising the authorities and later sold to Georgian Media Production Group.
Giorgi Gabunia (Georgian: გიორგი გაბუნია, [ɡiˈɔrɡi ɡɑˈbunjɑ], born 28 July 1975) [1] is a Georgian journalist and host, son of Georgian actor and host Julieta Vashakmadze. [2] He was the News Host of Rustavi 2 and Mtavari Arkhi Now He is Director General of Mtavari Arkhi.
