The Hawthorne Gold Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in 2005 in Hawthorne, California, by Dr. Donald Flaherty & Juan C. Leguizamon. Dr. Dr. Flaherty was the corps' executive director until 2022.
In 2014, the Blue Devils won their sixteenth DCI World Championship. At the DCI Finals in Indianapolis on August 9, the corps received a record high score of 99.650. Through 2010, all active World Class corps (22 corps as of 2016) competed in the Quarterfinals, with the top 17 advancing to the Semifinals. The top 12 corps from Semifinals then advanced to the Finals. Since the 2011 season, all active DCI corps (Open and World Class) have been permitted to compete for the championship.
