(Tuesday, February 8, 1983) — Karen Carpenter, the singing half of the popular 1970s brother-and-sister musical duo The Carpenters, was buried today following a funeral at United Methodist Church in Downey, California, that drew thousands of fans as well as family, friends and fellow musicians.
After her funeral which was attended by the likes of Olivia Newton-John and Dionne Warwick, her family started the Carpenter Family Foundation to raise money for research into anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders, the disease which took Karen's life far too soon.
