Although this is an older thread, I wanted to make a correction for anyone referencing it. The 64 and earlier Powerglide transmission has the mount in the same location as the powerglide, but the tailshaft is 3 inches longer. the 65 and later powerglide is the same length as a TH350, but for 64 and ealier, changing to a TH350 from a PG you will need to shorten the front driveshaft.

The RPM at 70 will be the same with a glide 350 or 400 all have 1:1 high gear. The glide 1.82 low & 1:1 high. The 350 has a 2.54 low 1.54 secound & 1:1 drive. The 400 is 2.45 , 1.45 1:1 drive. The driveability ia greater with a 3 speed tranny because of the ratios.
That is b/c a P/G is only 2-geared, a TH-350 and TH-400, 3-geared and the 200-4R, 700-R4 and 4L60/4L80 type are 3-geared with 4th-gear being an OD!! And GM made a "Turbo-glide" that is a two-speed tranny like a P/G but, I think it has cone clutches in it vs disc's!! Not as good as a P/G, imho.
Dave, most likeky a 2-speed out of a 65 Pontiac (Tempest) would be a Super Turbine 300, not a Powerglide, and wont bolt to a Chevy engine. A Powerglide for a 67 Camaro would have an overall length the same as a common 3 speed or 4 speed Chevy transmission. Some 'glides were air cooled, they had holes cut or cast in the bellhousing area.
#2 · Mar 12, 2024 (Edited) That vacuum hose runs to the vacuum (shift) modulator on the transmission. The reason it seems short is that the hose is supposed to connect to a steel tube that goes down past the exhaust and bell housing and stops near the modulator, where another piece of rubber vac hose makes the final connection.

Mine came with a 327 2 bbl Saginaw 3 speed manual and 3.08 open rear. Now 302 4bbl Muncie M20 and 3.73 posi. Probably should be M21 or M22 close ratio but the 2.54 low 1st helps with the parking lot crawl. 3000 rpm @ 60 mph not a long distance cruiser.
I have a 66 Impala Convt; had 283 CI /2 spd Powerglide; got a rebuilt 3 spd installed; yes there was some linkage mods to do, but the column shifter is still the same; although it still has D and L, the shifter has 3 D position after N.
B&M makes a kit you can get at Jegs/Summit that puts an speed sensor inline with your speedo cable, so the 12V is sent when a certain speed is reached. Can't answer the bellhousing question, I used a universal bellhousing that I trimmed to fit. 200-4R tranny conversion list:
