Over the past week I've worked on a first prototype for a selection tool. It allows you to make rectangular selections, which can be extended or subtracted from. The selection can be moved around, and the selection can be flipped, and duplicated. Also, the selection can serve as a mask for the brush tool. Here is a video demonstration:
