    535. Location. U.S.A. Feb 9, 2019. #1. There is a video of a guy using an Oregon bar rail closing tool on youtube. After going to the Oregon website, I can't seem to locate it on their site. Is Oregon still making the bar rail closer? It looks like a "T" shaped tool that you strike the top of the handle and the bevel grooved pocket pinches the ...

YMMV. I closed rails earlier today with my bench vice, a hammer and a wide flat blade screw driver. I then trued the rails again and it worked - saw cut nicely and straight, but it’s not ideal / the rails are not uniform in width all the way along the length of the bar. Hoped a quality closer would work more evenly.

One difference between this one and others I have seen are that this one includes a stop (marked 1 and A in the above pics) that rides inside and on the bottom of the bar groove. If the groove is closed down too far you can feel significant ...

Severely worn bars usually are out of groove depth and badly V shaped. If a replacement 24" bar cost me $45-60.00 the damaged one usually gets a thorough once over before it hits the recycle pile. That goes double for the old saw bars that cost effective replacements are no longer available. P.

Oregon. Jan 2, 2013. #7. Just take a larger flat head screwdriver and drive it into the area where the rails are pinched and continue driving it through. Do so at a angle so that the screwdriver travels along the rails and it will open the rails as it goes. Don't worry if the rails spread too far, you can correct them with some light taps of ...

Now, if you have too much slop in the bar (ie, the groove is too wide), it may be time for a new bar. There are a couple of fixes for this though. One is to buy a bar rail closer. I've never used one, some say they work, others say it's a temporary solution. Two, run a larger gauge chain. If you're running a .050 and it's sloppy, try running a ...

friendsville,tn. May 28, 2008. #18. laminated bar rail closing. Most of the laminated bar rail spreading I have seen was due to the rails wearing down ( usually just forward of the power head ) until the drive links rubbed ( and subsequently peened ) the softer middle layer of the bar. This causes the rails to spread.

Yes it often smokes and gets a little warm in the process so what. I am not sure what gauges are available in a 48'' bar. I would guess that it is only 063 so that is what you need. I used a 050 3/8'' on my 056 with a 48'' bar and yes was too much chain to pull but I only had one tree to cut that was 9' across.

  11. Hoiw often do you have to close the groove on a bar?

Feb 10, 2012. #2. if you have to close the groove more than once in the lifetime of a bar, you're doing something wrong. Closing the groove is a repair, not maintenance. It's OK to close it once, but after that I would consider the bar unsafe due to metal fatigue. Dressing the rails, on the other hand, is maintenance that should be done ...
