Duval County ( / djuːˈvɔːl / dew-VAWL) is a county in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Florida. As of July 2022, the population was 1,016,536, up from 864,263 in 2010. It is Florida's sixth-most populous county. [2] Its county seat is Jacksonville, with which the Duval County government has been consolidated since 1968. [3]
The city of Jacksonville is home to the Duval County Courthouse. The previous courthouse was constructed in 1958, and the county's population has grown by more than 50% in the past forty years. A new $190 million Duval County Courthouse was a key component of the Better Jacksonville Plan, approved by voters in 2000.
Fischer ran for Duval County property appraiser in the March 21, 2023 election. Jacksonville City Councilwoman Joyce Morgan finished ahead of Fischer in the March election, with 48% of the vote to 31%. Since neither received more than 50% of the vote, they faced each other in a runoff. Fischer lost the runoff election on May 16 to Morgan.
