I like all Z cars with the straight six! For stock performance, I really like the 82-83 280ZX turbo Z's. The best all around Z that I dream of every night would be my 77 280Z with a turbo engine, spearco intercooler, 20 psi of boost, and 240Z bumpers. 88 Mazda MX-6 GT Turbo 5 speed white/blue.

Talk with Les Cannaday at Classic Datsun Motorsports in Vista. He did one of the first 'program' cars for Nissan. But on a 280Z? Do you really want to spend $45,000 on a restoration? Paint and minor bodywork alone on those cars (just nice factory finish with factory approved rust repair and panel straightening) was close to $10,000

The car eventually rusted away in the Iowa snow but it was a perferct car until then (mechanically). $3,000 should find you a good (not perfect) 280Z but expect electrical bugs and a little work here and there. It would be above and away one of the most reliable cars from that era available barring rust issues. --RED.

The 280Z and and the 280ZX are way different. the ony thing they share is the drivetrain, and some styling, other than that they are total different. The 280Z is smaller and is more of a sports car, it doesnt have many luxary items, the only thing power on them are brakes and the antena. 280Zs ...
