SLTC Research University is a private university in Sri Lanka. [ 1] It conducts Engineering programs in Electronics, Telecommunications, Power Systems, Civil and Computing. Its degree programs are accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education and Highways and recognized by the university grants commission (UGC). [ 2]
The institute was established in 1968 and offers Graduate, Post Graduate, Executive Education, Diploma and Certificate programmes in the fields of Information Technology, Business Management, Languages, Engineering, and Design. The MBA programme is the flagship programme of the institute and is offered in two year full time.
In 2023, Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed the University of Peradeniya first in Sri Lanka and 301–400 band in the world university ranking. This is the highest world ranking that any university in Sri Lanka has reached in recent history.
The University of Sri Lanka was a public university in Sri Lanka. Established in 1972 by amalgamating the four existing universities, it was the only university in Sri Lanka from 1972 until 1978. The university was based at six campuses in Colombo, Peradeniya, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Moratuwa and Jaffna.
The university moved to the new site on 22 November 1961, under the direction of Sri Soratha Thero. The vice-chancellor invited the Department of Government Archives to establish its archives on the campus, near the university library, to encourage research. The Higher Education Act (No. 20 of 1966) [4] opened Sri Lanka's universities to women.
Established in 1974 as the sixth campus of the University of Sri Lanka, it became an independent, autonomous university in 1979. The main campus is located in Thirunelvely, Jaffna. In 2015, the Mahapola Trust Fund requested to review and amend their agreement with the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), asking for the return of all funds originally contributed, including interest. SLIIT had invested over LKR 2 billion into the Malabe Campus between 2005 and 2015.
