ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — 2021 has already broken the record for the deadliest year in Rochester’s history with 79 murders thus far. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Monday said according to a new study, homicides are up 126% over the past five years, (and compared to last year, a 67% jump).
According to the Rochester Police Department’s Open Data Portal, homicide cases in the city have decreased by 22 percent — from 73 to 57 this year compared to 2022. In an interview with RPD Thursday, Captain Greg Bello says while he’s glad numbers are down, he’s still not happy with where they sit.
