Forest Park is a city in Clayton County, Georgia, United States. It is located approximately nine miles (14 km) south of Atlanta [4] and is part of the Atlanta–Sandy Springs–Marietta metropolitan statistical area. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 19,932.
1966 Rose-Mar College of Beauty shooting: 18-year-old Robert Smith took seven people, including four students, into a backroom at Rose-Mar College of Beauty and ordered them to lie down in a circle. He shot each in the head. Four women and a 3-year-old girl died; another woman and a baby were injured but survived.
History. Forest Park High School opened in 1962 to serve the expanding west end of Beaumont; six years later, the wealthy school district replaced the campus. It and South Park High School were almost entirely white; in 1968, 3% of Forest Park's students were black, and in 1976, after a first federal order for the district to desegregate, 2%.
