Naval Academy Chapel. The ceiling of the chapel. The United States Naval Academy Chapel in Annapolis, Maryland, is one of nine designated chapel spaces on the grounds of the United States Navy's service academy. Protestant and Catholic services are held there. The Brigade Chapel is a focal point of the Academy and the city of Annapolis.
It was the first church in Maryland, and among the first in the nation, founded and built specifically for Italian immigrants. The church was designed by Baltimore architect E. Francis Baldwin. [2] St. Leo's Church was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. [1] It houses an 1881 historic Niemann pipe organ.
Windows are nine-over-nine sashes on the main level and six-over-nine on the upper floor. Wood stairs reach the main doors on the north and south sides and are reconstructions based on an 1863 photograph. The south doors are original to the house and deeply recessed under a wood architrave.
