Gonville and Caius College, often referred to simply as Caius (/ k iː z / KEEZ), is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge [3] in Cambridge, England. Founded in 1348 by Edmund Gonville , it is the fourth-oldest of the University of Cambridge's 31 colleges and one of the wealthiest.
The College was founded after David Robinson offered the University £17 million to establish a new college in Cambridge. Robinson later gave his College another £1 million on the occasion of its official opening. The first graduate students and fellows joined the College in 1977.
Fitzwilliam was the third Cambridge college and is, as of today, one of only seven to have won University Challenge. It did so in 1973 with a team that consisted of Philip Bassett (Botany), David Curry (Material Sciences), David Wurtzel (Law) and Michael Halls (English). [ 13 ]
