Description. The Howell Downtown Historic District is located in the central business district of the city, and incorporates parts of nine city blocks as well as the courthouse square. The district encompasses about fourteen acres, and includes sixty building, of which forty-six contribute to the historic significance of the district.

Covert, Michigan was a place of racial integration from its founding in the 1860s. The school had both black and white students starting in the 1860s.
