The Lone Star Hiking Trail system was conceived by the Lone Star Chapter of the Sierra Club in 1966, and reached its current path by 1978. It is maintained as a primitive, largely backcountry trail so hikers can pass through the varied ecosystems of East Texas while having an enjoyable experience.
Our mission is (1) to educate the public about location, use and needs of the hiking trails of Texas, with emphasis on the Lone Star Hiking Trail, and (2) to provide volunteer assistance for maintenance and improvement of hiking trails.
