The Crystal Ball is a very rare item, this makes it powerful in the first place. The character needs to first be attuned to the magic item in order to use it and from my understanding ( on the DMG's page 159 ), while touching it you're able to cast scrying (with a minimum save DC of 17).

A non-magical crystal ball is sufficient. assuming it is worth at least 1000 gp. We can see this from the typography of the spell listing, in which the words "crystal ball" are not italicized. The D&D 5e rulebooks consistently italicize the names of magic items anywhere they are used (except section headings), as per the D&D Style Guide.

The Crystal Ball allows me to "Cast the Scrying spell" while touching it. The long casting time rules say that you must "spend your action each turn" to keep casting a spell. I'd guess that, since I can't cast Scrying when I'm not touching the Crystal Ball, that means I fail on any turn I stop touching it, since I can't spend my action.

The time needed before attempting to cast another Scrying is then 70 minutes: 10 minutes of casting and 1 hour for the short rest. Your group can cast the spell from the Crystal Ball 21 times per day, not 24. Pay attention that a person does not need to spend a short rest to unattune, once another creature tries to attune to the same item the ...

With this, the Wizard could change the message every round, and thus send a long message over the 10 minutes that Scrying last. Since Magic Mouth lasts until it is dispelled, this could be done every day (though it would take up a 5th level spell slot to Scry on the location, in order to "see the illusion"). Share.

Some items remove the requirement to concentrate on a spell, for example the Crystal Ball: Crystal Ball of Mind Reading. You can use an action to cast the detect thoughts spell (save DC 17) while you are scrying with the crystal ball, targeting creatures you can see within 30 feet of the spell’s sensor.

a focus worth at least 1,000 gp, such as a crystal ball, a silver mirror, or a font filled with holy water. While not explicit, this focus is presumably used to actually see and hear the target of the spell (e.g., this question). The typical crystal ball, a very rare item, is about 6 inches in diameter. While touching it, you can cast the scrying spell (save DC 15) with it. I have lowered the spell save DC from the original to account for my item not requiring attunement.

An arcane focus is a special item — an orb, a crystal, a rod, a specially constructed staff, a wand-like length of wood, or some similar item — designed to channel the power of arcane spells. An object just happening to have the form of an orb, crystal, rod, staff, wand, or "some similar item" (which covers a lot!) isn't enough for it to be ...
