1. Reaction score. 1. I started having the same problem with my 2013 Equinox (2.4 L engine) at about 115K miles. One-owner car, never driven hard--just started failing. Turns out the engine was dry, no oil. Now I have to add a quart of oil every 1000 miles or so, to keep the car running.

He might be rebuilding yours which is what that sounds closer to. The problem with the 2012 is the rings and fuel pump, I just traded mine to keep from arguing with the dealer. A rebuild for $1800 will be worth it if you get another 100,000 miles without the oil smell. 2012 Equinox 2.4L 4 cyl.
The engine has been rebuilt with new rings, bearings, pistons, timing, both fuel pumps, vvt solenoids, both fuel pressure sensors, fuel injectors, plugs, coils, cam phasers and both 02 sensors. It has random multiple misfire at idle and bucks and jerks when in gear at idle. When given a little throttle it smooths out.

I have a 2018 Equinox with a 1.6 turbo diesel while driving it made aloud “popping sound” like a backfire it then slowed down to about 15 mph I had to go about 1.5 miles to get off the road, when I stopped the check engine light came on and it sounded like it was sucking air.
