Norton A. Schwartz. Norton Allan Schwartz (born December 14, 1951) [ 1] is a retired United States Air Force general [ 2] who served as the 19th Chief of Staff of the Air Force from August 12, 2008, until his retirement in 2012. [ 3] He previously served as commander, United States Transportation Command from September 2005 to August 2008.
Norton AFB served as the last assignment for Chuck Yeager. He retired at the base on 1 June 1975. Norton AFB was the final duty station of Sgt. John Levitow, the lowest ranking member of the Air Force to be awarded the Medal of Honor, where he served as a loadmaster with the 63d Military Airlift Wing.
