04-15-2011, 03:41 PM. Actually in the original meanings of engine and wagon they had distinctly different uses. Originally, the wagon carried the hose and apliances and the engine had nothing but the pump and perhaps hard suction or a soft sleeve. The engine went to the water source and the wagon laid out from the fire to the engine.

The manual relief valve can still be operated when the automatic governor is in RPM/Throttle Mode 3. If you are pumping at near-idle in PSI/Pressure Mode at 80 PSI with 80 PSI incoming, and you have your intake relief valve set at 200 PSI, and all of a sudden the incoming water supply surges to 180 PSI, there is very little the automatic ...

The extended length, which I believe is roughly 24" can be a big deal if overall length, wheelbase and a tight turning radius are important factors.

We currently have an entire fleet of Pierce apparatus, yet we are less than impressed with the last one we took delivery of.

  7. Pumping in RPM Mode with pressure governor - Firehouse

    forums.firehouse.com/forum/emergency-vehicles-operation/the-engineer/111138...

Supply apparatus (engines or tankers) should always use RPM and let the attack engine manage pressure (in PSI mode). Governor operation changes little regardless of single stage or 2-stage pump. Some engineers confuse the two "modes" of governor operation with two "stages" of a centrifugal pump.

  8. Quint/Aerial vs straight ladder truck - Firehouse Forums

    forums.firehouse.com/.../98737-quint-aerial-vs-straight-ladder-truck

The fire service has suffered greatly by over extension of services, requiring all members to be well versed in far more subjects than ever before. The result is less practical knowledge of far more subjects. Many FD's use Quints to reduce companies by saying they can cover both engine or truck functions depending on which order they arrive.

Milage vs Hours. 01-11-2008, 01:08 PM. All, Is there a general rule of thumb to go by when buying used apparatus, as to what the milage should be compared to the number of hours on the engine. For example: if the apparatus as a 100 miles on it should the hour meter equal 1 hour or a 100 hours. I know that there are things that need to be ...

    forums.firehouse.com/forum/firefighting/firefighters-forum/107710-truck-vs-ladder

Most often a Ladder refers to a "straight stick" with no platform. A Truck is a more broad definition, anything that qualifies as an aerial apparatus (NFPA 1901). Then there are Tower Ladders, Towers, Snorkels and more. Even more fun. Engine companies are refered to as: Engines, Motors, Pumpers, Wagons, Squads, etc...
