With the one way rental, you can be charged the daily rental fees etc. along with a fee to return the car to a different office than the one you picked it up at. That's happened to us on several occasions and each time it's been between $75/$100. I just think DCL or prearranged transportation is just easier.
BUT there ARE additional costs: the main road from MCO to the port has two tolls of $1 (you can pay cash) MISS paying one of these tolls and some rental companies will zap you for $20 (rental company, NOT FLORIDA) and you need to fill the car with gas (the drive is only around 45 miles); and there is the time spent picking up and returning the car.
We are leaving this Sunday to Orlando, have a car rental through National for a week. Pick up at MCO ,stay at Disney, then drive to Port Canaveral on Sunday Jan 28th for the Oasis cruise. We drop the car off at the National site in Port Canaveral and they shuttle you to the ship ( not far).
There are many rental companies, all with locations at or near Port Canaveral, all with shuttles to and from the port. I've paid everywhere from $29 (no kidding) to $150 for a one way in a mini van. You need to check all discount codes and see what you can do. DCL bus service is $35 for each person 3 and over each way.
I just booked yesterday via my AAA account for Hertz, $24/day from MCO-Cape Canaveral, total price w/ taxes was $32. The return was higher priced at $72 total, but still that is approx $100 for round-trip and having a car to go out for dinner or Wal-mart run the night before cruise, and car to explore the day we return.
This was our experience on Aug 4th, 2023. We arrived at MCO around 4PM. Picked up our 1 checked bag and was in our rental 15 minutes later. (I am AVIS Preferred). Really nice Kia Carnival. We stayed out near Disney in Flamingo Circle. This is a new subdivision and everything is brand new. We shop...
Posted February 12, 2022. They can be paid with cash. The total is $2.75, which you can verify on the Central Florida Expressway Authority's Toll Calculator. The rental car companies (most) will have a device to pay the tolls, but you will pay for the convenience. Be sure to turn off or decline that "service," or you'll pay twice.
Budget pick up code is MCO and drop of code is CC5. Joing FastBreak or the loyalty program for whichever company you choose. It won't do anything at Canaveral, but will save tons of time at MCO. And save your gas receipt. They verify it if you drop off at MCO--no receipt= automatic $13.99 charge.
We just had a schedule change with our flights. We will now arrive at 1AM on Saturday and our Cruise leaves on Sunday. Because of the time we arrive I was wondering if a car rental might be easier than finding an UBER/Taxi to our hotel in Port Canaveral? I looked at Enterprise and it would be $125+/- to pick it up at the MCO at 1AM and return ...
Then return the rental vehicle at the office in Cape Canaveral and either hop on the free shuttle or Uber back over to Port Canaveral.' to meet up with your friends and family. At the conclusion of your cruise pick up your rental vehicle for the return trip back to MCO. On Saturday return the rental vehicle at MCO and check in for your flight home.
