I stumbled on this site that appears to show part numbers too. Navagation to the right diagram can be tricky but part numbers were shown. I don't have any info on how competitive their prices/shipping/etc are. I've put together a "possible" parts list. I may not have to replace everything below. For instance, the cam, pushrod and rocker arm may be fine. Everything comes up to around $1000. For now I spliced in a piece of hose, but I just ordered the 4 metal lines. I'd like to replace the connectors on the transmission and radiator ends, however the parts for 2002 are listed strange. Does anyone know if I can use the newer part numbers on a 2002 model? 2002 part ($15.35) GM GENUINE 52481097
Some parts I found on EBay and others are only available from the dealer. For example, one bearing from the dealer was $119 and I purchased it on EBay new for $25 including shipping. The dealer gave me around 20% off the parts I purchased from them. This is the undersized pressure plate bearing that was causing the whining sound.
But there's one thing that *could* throw you off. Look at the rear side windows of both. The EXT window is flush to the body edges / trim (bigger). The XL has smaller inset windows. If you need someone to do a closer look at one or the other, let us know. Also, check out the GM online parts catalogs (many sources) in exploded diagram view.
Shopping for parts can be difficult. The part lists on the GM sites seem to be not complete, and the schematics are just ridiculous. Look at this schematic for a GM fuel pump (listed on an GM OEM parts site.) This image is a complete joke. Anyone know where to find the most complete parts catalog with quality schematics?
