Though as Garth Powell enabled a major jump in performance withe the Storm series power cables, as big is this new generation of power cables. I truly understand that AudioQuest is very proud about it and it's amazing to see such a big difference between Castle Rock and Robin Hood for example.
Most Audioquest speaker wire are comprised of 4 wires for RED+ and 4 wires for BLACK- (the low end products such as Rocket 33 use 3 wires or 2 wires for each RED/BLACK). When they do the bi-wire on a speaker cable, they just take 2 wires for each banana/spade connection. The core 13awg speaker wire is the same.
I also purchased an NRG-4 and a Cinnamon USB cable for my phone to DAC, both Audioquest. I’m impressed with what Audioquest brings to the table,though they can get quite expensive. All my IC’s are Morrow MA 3 or 5.
observation based on two very similar system ( speakers / integrated ) but different source, rooms; AQ smoother with more defined bass, better stereo image. Kinber more detailed. I have a 12 TC internal biwire set i carry around in my setup box. My reference system is all Audioquest signal but I think Kimber is fine wire / company. Jim
I bought a 12 foot pair of bedrocks back in August 2006 to replace my AudioQuest Type 4 speaker cable which was very good for around 100 bucks. My soundstage improved dramatically as did bottom end and midrange. It seemed everything was being reproduced effortlessly. Smooth yet dramatic. Detailed and in your face.
When I lend the Redwood latest version from Audioquest I was surprised even how much better the timing was compared to the Valhalla 1. I will do an update from Redwood to Wel later as well. * There is one important note; The Wel Signature loudspeaker cable and also the interconnects have a long period to burn in.
I am a big fan of certain Audioquest products because they are one of the only manufactures who make pure copper solid-core cabling. Most everyone else (including super expensive items) are typically stranded. The speaker wire is excellent at the Rocket 44/88 and above level.
Audioquest has come out with a very good entry level bulk speaker cable. The audioquest FLX/Slip speaker cable is a 14 gauge, 2 conductor cable that comes in a very flexible and attractive greyish-black jacket with a solid red stripe running down it. The cable is available in bulk at audio advisor for .99 cents a foot.
My only other Audioquest speaker cable was from 30 years ago, when the company was very young and speaker cable technologies were nowhere near what they have been for the past 10 + years. I am confident, however, that any of the upper-end Audioquest speaker cable from the past 6 to 10 years will certainly deliver an excellent value.
The Audioquest (AQ) Rocket 88 with DBS system would be a noticeable upgrade, I suspect. AQ cables are a great match with Vandersteen (I have the 2CE SigIII). Vandersteen often uses AQ cables at shows, and most Vandersteen dealers sell AQ cables.
