Algodones is a peaceful countryside farming village on the historic Camino Real (Royal Highway) of the Spanish Colonial period that later became the 1926 to 1937 Route 66 by the Rio Grande. US 66 roadway includes the Little Gap and Big Cut, the 1930s underpass and a timber bridge from 1927 on its alignment.
