In 1931, the Hellenic Air Force Academy, the Icarus School ( Greek: Σχολή Ικάρων ), was founded. At the end of 1936, Greece ordered 36 Polish PZL P.24 fighter aircraft, which entered service with the 21st, 22nd and 23rd Pursuit Squadrons and after completion of deliveries in 1938, formed the core of the RHAF fighter force.
