The hospital was formerly Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg and Calhoun Counties. Grading South Carolina Overall in South Carolina, of the 51 hospitals that were ranked, 22 received a letter A.
In January 2006, the 124 inpatient bed Prisma Health Heart Hospital, located on the Richland campus, opened its doors. The $80 million, 200,000-square-foot (19,000 m 2) hospital is the state's only freestanding facility specializing only in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
The institution is partnered with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. It is located at 7901 Farrow Road , near Exit 73 on Interstate 20, which is the junction with S.C. 277.
