    Autocad itself doesn't use 3d meshes anymore, but almost any downloadable model out there (furniture, etc) still uses them. The ACIS importer that shoogen linked above is actually totally capable of handling the 3D data found inside dxf files.

In case it's helpful you can also first start FreeCAD and then drag and drop the URL from the browser to the FreeCAD main window. This opens the download manager window where when it's fully downloaded you can press a button to load the file.
