Feb 20, 2012. #2. It will actually work better on the OUTSIDE of the bed [on the drivers side] towards the rear. Try to nstay away from inside the bed and away from the engine to keep the sngine noise out of the radio. BTW 102 " steel whip nis bthe most perfect antenna for cb's as well as keeping SWR's low. K.
Jan 24, 2011. #16. On the subject of CB antennas, with over 40 yrs exp, your signal to wave ratio cannot be good with a mount in that position. In my exp antenna at least needs to be flush with the vehicle for best range, esp on transmit. If Shakesphere still makes antennas, their top loaded 48 incher was the bomb.
So Cal - Richardson, TX - Tewksbury, MA. Mar 18, 2018. #6. If your looking for a legal CB I think the Uniden 980 SSB would be hard to beat at around $120 new. If your looking for something with more power and features I would recommend a used ham rig like a Yaesu FT-857 or Icom 706MKIIG or Kenwood TS-50, etc.
In the days when 102" whips were popular for CB, they were often mounted up high to get the best use of the ground plane. On some vehicles, that put the antenna tip up -very- high. There are a number of rural places around me that suffer from some visible damage from these days gone by.
This is about the best GMRS compatible radio for the price I have seen in recent times. Motorola XTL1500, 45W, 450-512MHz and common software will take it to 440MHz for amateur use. This company has them refurbished and guaranteed for $99. You will need a mic and power cables but those are available for about $50.
I have a FireStik II FS5 with the tunable tip, FireStik heavy-duty spring, FireStik Heavy Duty SO-239 Stud Mount, 18' of CB Antenna Cable, and a Uniden 15-watt speaker. The tuner I ordered is a Astatic PDC7 with the 3' Jumper. Here is what I need to know. What would be the best place to mount the antenna to? I do not want to drill any holes in ...
Mounting a low band 1/4 wave or high band 5/8 wave in the fender position is a performance compromise. For your average CBer, it will be a marginal difference though as many of us know the antenna tuning and radio alignment are the largest limiting factors with the service. Not open for further replies.
That is one tall antenna! I see it too is rated at 5,000 Watts and the CB Radio Magazine states in the paragraph subtitled "TVI" that "While the Imax 2000 is a great antenna in many respects perhaps one of it’s weak points is it’s tendency to create interference. The A99 was famous for creating problems and complaints from neighbors and ...
7. Location. Bucks County, PA. Apr 21, 2008. #1. I've been using a NGP Firestik antenna mounted to my non-metal roof rack out of convenience but I could clearly do better both in terms of reception and transmission. I really do NOT want to use a mag mount, and have seen a Firestik hood mount which mounts to the inside of the engine compartment.
Mar 5, 2013. #3. Any antenna that works for regular CB will work the same way when using a SSB CB rig. The frequencies are the same and that's what matters to an antenna. If they eventually create a digital CB that uses the same 40 channels as they do now, the same thing applies.
