  2. Battle - Ublock Origin vs Adguard Chrome extension

    malwaretips.com/threads/ublock-origin-vs-adguard-chrome-extension.95839

Adguard browser extension is open source! It's slower yes, probably because of the safe browsing module which sends out hash of URLs to check against online blacklist, but you can disable. The desktop version is better and much faster than the extension one. It filters before the web content entering the browser.

With MV2 + DNS based blocking, anything not blocked by the extension would have been blocked by the DNS, with MV3 adblockers, DNS will block/redirect queries to 0.0.0.0 first before they are handled by the extension. So, DNS based blocking IMO is probably more important now.

My personal experience is exactly the same, I have never seen noticeable difference in browsing speed between adguard (extension or app) and ublock origin. I never liked ublock origin to be honest, I prefer the simplicity of Adguard which does better cosmetic handling of the pages. The only extension which is noticeably faster is Ghostery.

Why I believe Adguard ad-blocker browser extension is better than uBlock Origin: User friendly. Easy to navigate. Settings are easy to find. Global on/off toggle. uBlock Origin may be more capable, but it's lacks any GUI that's easy for everyone.

Tuesday at 3:57 AM. #121. silversurfer said: Nope. I rather use (or better said testing) since a few weeks Ghostery recently developed based on MV3 even for Firefox. But also uBOLite did the job well enough for my browsing habits, of course if you don't need the advanced features of uBlock Origin. Oh, if that's the case, that's okay.

    malwaretips.com/threads/chrome-extension-manifest-v3-may-break-ublock-origin...

The Google Chrome development team is working on making some changes to the Chrome Extensions platform that would end the functionality of ad-blockers like uBlock Origin and uMatrix, if implemented as defined in the current draft document. Extension capabilities are restricted through a mechanism called extension manifest, currently at version ...

    1. AdGuard (agree with @lnk it is the most user friendly option and the best choice for average and set and forget PC type of user) Substantial advantages: 1. Is really set and forget (even adds language filters automatically) 2. Maintains its own filters, reducing the chance of website breakage. 3.

Technically you are correct about paywall. I just used that paywall bypassing filter list as an example, it can be any filter list, or custom rules created by the users. So no, that's not the reason why gorhill is refusing. He didn't even want to create an extension for MV3 until AdGuard released their experimental MV3 extension.

Tried ublock lite on firefox today and it seems to be improved alot lately, it completely blocks ads on ad feasted site including annoyances ( i enabled the filterlists tho) If you dont use medium mode of ublock origin or use zipper to block elements i would go with the ublock lite from now.
