About Butler Township. Butler Township was incorporated in 1804 when Butler County was divided into 13 townships. Butler Township was then subdivided into North and South Butler. It remained as such until 1854 when the township was established within its present boundaries.

Waste Collection: Trash & Recycling. Waste Management has been awarded the exclusive contract to provide solid waste disposal and recycling services to Butler Township residents. The contract is for eight (8) years effective January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2026.
Butler Township Administrators. The Butler Township Board of Commissioners have designated the Manager to administer the day-to-day operation of Butler Township. In addition to the Manager, there are four (4) main departments that assist in the day-to-day operation: Police Department. Zoning Department.
The Butler Township Police Department is managed by Chief John Hays and consists of a lieutenant, four patrol sergeants, three detectives, twelve full time patrol officers, one part time dog law enforcement officer, and two full time clerical support staff.
