Art Van Furniture Inc. was an American furniture retail store chain, with stores across the Midwestern United States. Founded in 1959, the company was headquartered in Warren, Michigan, and claimed to be the largest furniture retailer in the Midwest at its peak. [1] In 2020, the company filed for bankruptcy and closed all of its stores.
The company was founded in 1920 by Sam and Jessie Levin in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania as a general sales clearance center. [1] In the 1940s, the Levin family phased out other items in order to concentrate on furniture. Leonard Levin, son of Sam and Jessie, joined the company during this time and eventually became president.
Art Van Furniture – Founded in 1959 in Warren, MI, and operated over 300 stores and outlets in 7 states. On March 5, 2020, Art Van Furniture announced it would liquidate all of their company owned stores and file for chapter 11 bankruptcy.
On March 5, 2020, Art Van announced that it would be closing all of its company-owned stores, including its Great Lakes Crossing Outlets location, as it filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. In May 2020, furniture chain Arhaus confirmed the opening of a clearance center in the space vacated by Lord & Taylor in 2019.
