This project was intended to catalog the location of the grave of veterans of all American wars since the Revolutionary War. This information was usually then turned over to the State Militia's Historian's office. By its very nature, such a project would skip cataloging some graves in a cemetery, since many of them would not be for veterans.
Due to the coronavirus public health emergency, the National Personnel Records Center is servicing only urgent requests related to homeless veterans, medical emergencies, and funerals which may be faxed to 314-801-0764. This project will support the processing of veterans’ claims, including those related to the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019, and eventually facilitate increased access to these records by researchers in a digital format without having to travel to a National Archives facility.
We also recommend that you continue your search via the Library of Congress through their Veterans History Project. There you can search the veterans collections by conflict, branch of service, and several other filter options to access the personal accounts directly from veterans.
