    Again, I used to have one of those exact machines, and the stock Hitachi HDD is almost unusably slow. Catalina only makes things worse, because of the filesystem change (High Sierra used JHFS, while Catalina uses APFS). Good you have 16 GB of RAM finally, but the hard drive is what's making the machine really unusable.
