Checked my venmo account and don’t see anything. Is this some kind of a scam? Or is someone just trying to hack my account? Obviously I’m calling them back tomorrow. Just want to see if anyone else has gotten one of these calls. Phone number was +1 (855) 812-4430 UPDATE: yesterday I received a text claiming to be venmo.
This is a scam. Tell them to contact Venmo to sort it out on their end. Do not send any money to anyone. If you do it’s considered a new transaction. Which means that when the card owner whose account was stolen (or whatever the scam is here) finds out about the unauthorized use in the 1500 is charged back, it will vanish from your account…
To reiterate, if you’re a victim of a scam, Venmo doesn’t typically get involve or offer any type of protection. Still: You should report fraudulent activity to the company so they can warn ...
Here is an image of a scammer trying to pull off a fake payment scam. There is also a variant of the fake payment scam where you will receive a legitimate but fraudulent payment. If you think you're dealing with a scammer, you're probably right. Always trust your gut. I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
I googled the venmo/zelle scam and had some ideas about the scam and the typical signs of scammer, i.e. immediate msg after posting, pre-deposit with venmo/zelle etc. I know the general rule of thumb is cash and meetup, but it seems that more and more people are using venmo/zelle for the convenience, and I do not want to limit potential legit ...
A guy I used to be friends with sent me a total of $1200 over a span of several months in order to pay me back for things, I have text evidence that these transactions were intentional and even sent them to Venmo during the dispute process however his bank has charged back the money leaving my account -$1200 and Venmo has yet to unfreeze it after several months.
Back to our "Venmo Scam" How does this relate to these "Venmo scams?" It's less likely a scammer would send via Venmo and expect money back via Venmo to complete the scam. If a scammer tries the "fake check scam" via Venmo and cashes out via Venmo, they've linked themselves directly to the victim and created a clear digital footprint.
The scam doesn't happen through Venmo directly. The scammer sends you an email purporting to be from Venmo (but it's usually from a random gmail address) telling you that your account is not a business account, so you have to pay to upgrade it. The email is usually poorly-written and the process makes no sense, but people still fall for it.
If this was an honest mistake, contacting Venmo Support helps the person who made the mistake while being careful with your own money. Sending it back manually puts your own money at risk. Never send it back manually. If this is a scam, don't try to scam the scammers and think of this as "free money".
Hello all! Just wanted to make everyone aware of an ongoing Venmo scam. Currently getting several “sign in attempt from new device” emails from this domain venmo@venmo.com. Thing is, I haven’t had a Venmo account for 8 years. I’m forwarding them to phishing@venmo.com for now and deleting it. Watch out and stay vigilant for scammers.
