Texas state highways are a network of highways owned and maintained by the U.S. state of Texas. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is the state agency responsible for the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the system. Texas has the largest state highway system, followed closely by North Carolina's state highway system.
The initial system included 26 state highways, many of which followed pre-existing trails and trade routes. Over the years, the system has expanded significantly, reflecting the growth and changing needs of Texas. As of 2021, the total length of the 246 currently in-service highways with unique assigned numbers is 14,092.7 miles (22,680.0 km).
