MLA (Modern Language Association) style is most commonly used to write papers and cite sources within the liberal arts and humanities. New to MLA 9th edition, there are now steps to take for citing works by an author or authors using a pseudonym, stage-name, or different name. If the person you wish to cite is well-known, cite the better-known form of the name of the author.

It is not necessary to include sources that you consulted but did not directly reference in the works cited list – it should only include the sources you directly quoted or paraphrased. Each in-text citation should therefore have a corresponding entry in the works cited list.
