Griffin attended Copperas Cove High School in Texas, where he was a three-sport star in basketball, football, and track for the Bulldawgs. [4] He started at quarterback for two seasons. He is the special teams coordinator and chief of staff at Texas A&M University–Commerce, a position he has held since 2019.Welch served as the head football coach at Kansas Wesleyan University from 1985 to 1986, Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kansas from 1987 to 1992, and Copperas Cove High School in Copperas Cove, Texas from 1994 to 2017.
